She has extensive experience in ICU nursingand also spent many years as a flight nurse.Mary Anne’s experience at Regions Hospital includesstaff nurse on the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, TraumaNurse Clinician, Neurosurgical Nurse Clinician, andFCCS(Fundamentals of Critical Care Support)coordinator. Mary Anne helped establish clinicalresearch efforts for the Department of Surgery and hascoordinated multiple research studies.Mary Anne and her team have established the ComplexAbdominal Reconstruction Service (CARS) at RegionsHospital. The CARS team has developed novel andstructured approaches for managing complexabdominal wounds and enteric fistulae. The CARS teamfocuses on the best possible patient outcomes and agood quality of life on the “journey to surgical repair”.The CARS team currently services over two hundredpatients with all aspects of patient care; nutrition,conditioning, surgery and wound care.Mary Anne speaks nationally and internationally aboutthe challenges of fistula care and complex wounds. Sheis the creator of Fistula Solution products and holdsthree patents. She has published articles in Journal ofAmerican College of Surgeons, Wounds, SurgicalTechnology International, Clinical Nutrition, CurrentDialogues in Wound Management and The Clinics ofNorth America: Emergency Nursing.
