Dr. Sonia Ramamoorthy is a Professor of Surgery and Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery at UC San Diego Health System and President-elect of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. She completed both her clinical research fellowship and her general surgery residency at UC San Diego, and a Colorectal Surgery fellowship at Washington University’s Barnes-Jewish Hospital. She earned her MBA at the Rady’s School of Management, her MD/MS at Boston University School of Medicine and her BA degree at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Ramamoorthy’s research interests include colorectal cancer, the application of new technology to colorectal surgery and quality related outcomes. She has authored over a hundred papers and chapters in colorectal surgery and remains an enthusiastic innovator and educator in the field of minimal invasive surgery.
