Medical Management of IBD with Dr. Uma Mahadevan (10/2/22)
Dr. Uma Mahadevan is an internationally renowned gastroenterologist and clinical scientist specializing in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), particularly pregnancy and drug safety. She completed a medical degree at the State University of New York in Brooklyn, residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, and a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She did an advanced fellowship in IBD at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Mahadevan currently serves as Professor of Medicine at UCSF, Director of the UCSF Colitis and Crohn’s Disease Center and Director of the Advanced IBD Fellowship.
Dr. Mahadevan specializes in the treatment of complex ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. She is a global expert on the management of pregnancy and drug safety in the patient with IBD. She is also interested in the role of diet and IBD and has an ongoing original study in this area. Her current projects include a national prospective registry of pregnancy outcomes and drug safety in women with IBD on immunosuppressive and biologic medications (PIANO), clinical trials in biologic therapy for IBD, and the impact of nutritional interventions in the management of IBD (SEAMUS).
