Sharon L. Stein, MD, FACS, FASCRS is a Colorectal Surgeon at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and Professor of Surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She is the former Program Director of the UH Colorectal Fellowship, and the Director of UH RISES: Research in Surgery Outcomes and Effectiveness center. She was the first woman to receive an Honorary Fellowship from the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, and is a Murdough Master Clinician in Colorectal Surgery. She is a former President of the Association of Women Surgeons, and was on the planning committee for last year’s ASCRS national meeting. She has published over 100 articles, abstracts and chapters not only on topics spanning the breadth of colorectal surgery, but also including education and diversity and inclusion.

Dr. Ashburn is Assistant Professor of Colorectal Surgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. She attended medical school at Wake Forest School of Medicine and completed her general surgery residency at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She went on to pursue her Colon and Rectal Surgery fellowship at the University Hospitals in Cleveland. Dr. Ashburn has a special interest in IBD and reconstruction options in these technically challenging operations.
